The client
Buy Nutritionals is an independent distributor and direct marketer of USANA Health Sciences nutritional products, selling health and wellness products direct to consumers from one storefront.
The brief
Keep an important revenue store fast, converting and current for years, while nobody at the client has to think about the platform underneath it. Most Magento work looks like this: no exotic architecture, just a live store that has to keep improving without breaking.
What we did
We built the store on Magento Open Source in February 2020 and have run it ever since, entirely in-house: every commit in six years is from a Sookshum engineer.
- Upgrades without drama. The store has moved through each Magento release in stages, one patch release at a time, with security patches applied between vendor releases rather than waiting for the next one.
- Patches as code. Patches are declared in the project's dependency file, so every fix applied to the store is recorded and repeatable, not something someone remembers doing.
- Conversion and retention. One-step checkout, shipping table rates, tiered discounts, promotions and free-gift rules, abandoned-cart recovery and follow-up email: mostly configuration and compatibility work, done carefully.
- Speed, accessibility, SEO and analytics. Mobile speed and largest-contentful-paint fixes, accessibility fixes and GA4 event tracking set up properly.
Why this one matters
The custom code on this store is small on purpose: a handful of modules for content security policy, GA4 events and order comments. The value is everything around it: a store that stays on a supported version, stays fast and keeps working, year after year, with the same team.
If you need proof we can build something complicated, see our multistore case study. If you need proof somebody will still be keeping your store current in year six, this is it.
What we'd carry into the next support retainer
- Baseline in week one. We now record Core Web Vitals and load times at the start of every engagement, so speed work shows up as a before-and-after number.
- One timeline everyone can read. Git tells the full story of this store. On new retainers we also keep a short, dated change log the client can read without opening a repository.
